LUCID Releases 5 MP Phoenix Polarization Color Camera Featuring Sony IMX250MYR Sensor

Richmond, BC, Canada – Aug 27, 2018 – LUCID Vision Labs, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of unique and innovative industrial vision cameras, today announced the release of the color version of its 5 Megapixel Phoenix polarization camera.

In addition to the monochrome version of the Phoenix polarization model, LUCID has now integrated the Sony IMX250MYR polarized color sensor into its Phoenix camera family. The 5 MP global shutter sensor with a pixel size of 3.45µm and frame rates of up to 24 fps is based on the popular IMX250 Sony Pregius CMOS color sensor with polarizing filters added to the pixel. The sensor has four different directional polarizing filters (0°, 90°, 45°, and 135°) on every 2 by 2 array of pixels. The Phoenix color polarization camera allows users to compute both color and angle of polarization information for each image pixel.

Excelitas Technologies Acquires Research Electro Optics

Excelitas continues to expand its technology portfolio and global footprint as a single-source provider of end-to-end photonic solutions for commercial and defense markets.

WALTHAM, Mass., July 9, 2018 – Excelitas Technologies® Corp., a global technology leader focused on delivering innovative, customized photonic solutions, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of Research Electro Optics (REO) (Boulder CO, USA). REO is a privately-held company specializing in the volume manufacture of high-precision optical components, optical thin film coatings, and optical subassemblies as well as high-performance HeNe lasers for instrumentation and metrology applications across a wide range of market sectors.

The combination of Excelitas and REO offers an expanded range of products and capabilities for OEM customers and Defense Prime Contractors seeking single-source convenience and reliability for high-performance illumination, optical and detection solutions.

“We are thrilled to welcome REO to the Excelitas family as their products complement Excelitas’ existing optics portfolio quite well”, noted Excelitas CEO, David Nislick. “REO provides an extremely capable, high quality optics operation in the United States that we look to grow with further investment as we have done with the former Qioptiq facilities in Europe and Asia.”

REO will continue full optical coatings and laser technologies operations from its state-of-the-art facilities in Boulder, CO as it is integrated with the Excelitas Technologies family.

Lucid Camera Phoenix 5.0 MP Polarization Model

The Phoenix polarization camera features Sony’s IMX250MZR CMOS polarized sensor. This 5 MP global shutter sensor is based on the popular IMX250 Sony Pregius CMOS mono sensor with polarizing filter array added to the pixels. The sensor has four different directional polarizing filters (0°, 90°, 45°, and 135°) on every four pixels. The Phoenix polarization camera performs on-camera processing using the four directional filters and outputs both the intensity and polarized angle of each image pixel. ALIO Hybrid Hexapod® Awarded US Patent

ALIO Industries, Inc. based in Arvada Colorado, an innovator in Nano Technology motion systems, was awarded the first of several US patents for the novel Hybrid Hexapod®.

Traditional Hexapods, also known as Gough-Stewart platforms, first saw use in flight simulators and amusement rides. In recent years the Hexapod has been used in applications including micromachining, metrology, and automated assembly. Miniaturization of components, better sensors, and improved laser beam delivery have challenged the precision capabilities associated with the kinematics and path performance of traditional Hexapods making them all but irrelevant in today’s demanding industrial applications.

ALIO’s Hybrid Hexapod’s take a different approach to traditional 6 Degree of Freedom (6-DOF) positioning devices with far higher performance at competitive prices. Rather than 6 independent legs (and 12 connection joints) ALIO’s approach combines a precision XY Monolithic stage, Tripod, and continuous rotation Theta-Z axis to provide superior overall performance. The combination of serial and parallel kinematics at the heart of ALIO’s 6-D Nano Precision® stages renders traditional Hexapod kinematics obsolete with orders-of-magnitude improvements in precision, path performance, speed, stiffness and a larger work envelope with virtually unlimited XY travel and fully programmable Tool Center Point locations. The ALIO Hybrid Hexapod® has less than 100 nm 3-Dimensional 6 axis Point Precision® repeatability.

A major Photonics customer commented; “We demanded an NDA to ensure ALIO does not even mention our company since the ALIO Hybrid Hexapod is a game changer in our industry”. With multiple Hybrid Hexapods in service, the high expectations of this customer have been exceeded.

Since 2001 ALIO has been the gold standard for leading-edge motion products with unmatched performance and quality including the industry’s first 3-year warranty. ALIO’s long history of disruptive technology is reinforced with the Patented Hybrid Hexapod.

Please contact Walter Silvesky, Vice President of Sales at ALIO, to review your application needs and/or interest in private labeling this novel game-changing Hybrid Hexapod solution.

Compact FREEDOM C with Improved Resolution

The FREEDOM C offers a very high resolution – down to 0.15 nm – in a small foot print of only 61 x 65 x 19 mm. The series includes a spectrometer for the UV, the VIS, and the VIS-NIR range all using the latest CMOS detector technology with 4096 pixels.

The spectrometers include a cylindrical lens to increase throughput and a new slit option of 5 x 750 um. The FREEDOM C spectrometers can be supplied with Ibsen’s Digital Image Sensor Board electronics (DISB-101S), which offers fast and accurate timing control for applications like Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS).

The FREEDOM platform is a series of cost-efficient, pre-configured spectrometers. Due to the small size, robust performance, and high resolution, these units are ideal for integration into portable instruments where performance cannot be sacrificed for small size. Applications for the FREEDOM spectrometers range from Raman and LIBS to UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy. The combination of high performance and compact size is obtained due to our in-house manufactured unique transmission gratings.
