Displays are being integrated in more devices than ever. Nowadays displays are used in cars, phones, tablets, laptops, watches, household appliances, etc.
LCD has been the dominant display technology for many years, during which the technology matured and reached its limits with respect to resolution, brightness, contrast, colour saturation and speed. There have been multiple display technologies aiming to replace LCD of which only a few seem capable to actually challenge it. And now, nearing the end of this decade, OLED technology is on its way to push LCD aside.
Major mobile phone and tablet manufacturers are already using OLED displays in their top-tier product lines because of their superior contrast and colour saturation. These properties give manufacturers a competitive advantage, but they also create challenges when measuring these displays in their existing measurement systems. These measurements need to be done to accurately calibrate every display, so colour performance is constant for each device.
Need for highly sensitive and accurate colorimeters
The colorimeters used for LCD technology performed very well for many years in mass production environments.
However, when re-using these systems for OLED display technology they will be relatively slow. The internal sensors need a minimum amount of light for accurate measurements, and the deep OLED black levels offer less light to measure. This will result in longer measurement times during which more light is collected to compensate. Sensor technology and electronics will need to improve so measurement time can be shortened for measuring the black level of OLED displays.
Furthermore, re-used systems may be less accurate on OLED displays as well because the emitted light has other spectral characteristics than LCD. Within the colorimeter, the transmissive filters which create the XYZ tristimulus functions have spectral imperfections and will need to improve so the colour measurement will be more accurate.
To optimise tact times while still maintaining high measurement accuracy in mass production environments the OLED display and device manufacturers need more sensitive and more accurate measurement equipment.
Introducing the Admesy Hyperion colorimeter
Admesy has developed the Hyperion colorimeter which integrates custom-designed optical filters, state-of-the-art electronics and sensors in a compact robust housing. The Hyperion is the perfect choice for manufacturers who need fast and accurate OLED display measurements for their products.
The Hyperion has a proven track record for OLED white-point adjustment, gamma correction, flicker analysis and contrast measurements at major display and electronics manufacturers

LUCID Vision Labs, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of unique and innovative industrial vision cameras, today announced the addition of the 3rd generation Sony Pregius 2.8 MP and 7.1 MP global shutter CMOS image sensors to its Triton GigE Vision camera series.
Featuring the Sony IMX429 and IMX428 sensors, the new 2.8 MP and 7.1 MP Triton camera models have now entered series production. The larger 4.5 μm pixel size offers a high saturation capacity of 25,000e-, low read noise of 2.5e- and a wider dynamic range of 76 dB compared to the 2nd generation Sony Pregius sensors, enabling a superior image acquisition under low light conditions.
“We’re pleased to expand our Triton camera family with the latest 3rd generation Sony Pregius image sensors and utilize their enhanced imaging performance,” says Rod Barman, Founder and President at LUCID Vision Labs. “The new sensors provide dual conversion gain which enables users to take advantage of the larger saturation capacity and maximize the dynamic range depending on the imaging condition.”
The Triton™ camera sets a new price performance standard in the industrial camera market. Active Sensor Alignment for superior optical performance, a lightweight, compact 29 x 29 mm size, and IP67 protection rating make the Triton™ camera suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. The M12 Ethernet and M8 general purpose I/O connectors provide a robust connection resistant to shock and vibration and are protected from dirt, dust, and water. The Triton™ camera has a wide operating temperature range from -20°C to 55°C ambient, ensuring reliable operation in challenging conditions.
All LUCID cameras conform to the GigE Vision 2.0 and GenICam3 standards and are supported by LUCID’s own Arena software development kit. The Arena SDK provides customers with easy access to the latest industry standards and software technology. The SDK supports Windows, Linux 64bit and Linux ARM operating systems, and C, C++, C# and Python programming languages.
The new Triton™ TRI028S and TRI071S models are now available for order. These Sony 3rd generation image sensors will also be available on the higher speed 5GBASE-T Atlas™ camera in Q3 2019, reaching frame rates up to 173 fps. For more information, please visit our Triton product page or us.
With PrismMaster® Flex, TRIOPTICS presents a versatile goniometer for optics manufacturing. The unique vertical configuration and modular product concept make it a productive yet flexible solution for production-related quality testing of prisms and plano optical components.
The new PrismMaster® Flex goniometer provides for optimal adaptation to customers’ measurement requirements by means of three expansion stages.
The PrismMaster® Flex, with an electronic autocollimator in a swivel arm, is exceptionally suited for productive measurement of surface angles of manufactured prisms in comparison to a known reference prism. With measurement times under one second per sample, the system delivers unbeatably fast results.
In the PrismMaster® Flex 1D, the position information of the swivel arm is captured so that absolute surface angles and tilt angles are also measurable. In the PrismMaster® Flex 2D, the position information of the sample table is additionally captured, allowing for spatial angular relationships, wedge orientations and pyramidal angles to be measured.
The Helios is a Time of Flight(ToF) camera with superior depth precision.
Unlock the potential of Time of Flight in a variety of industrial applications including robotics navigation, 3D inspection and logistics.
What is a Time of Flight Camera:
The Helios industrial camera detects 3D depth of objects. It features Sonys’s DeapthSence ToF sensor, along with 4 VCSEL laser diodes operating at 850nm.
The camera calculates depth data by measuring the time it takes for light emitted from diodes to reflect off objects in the scene and return to the sensor for each point of the image.
This design results in high accuracy of < 5 mm with a precision( standard deviation) of 2 mm at 1.0 m distance.
